Tour of Monte Viso
A very beautiful, varied and technical ski tour around the majestic Monte Viso.
France > Queyras
Program
Typical of the southern Alps, at 3841m, Monte Viso is a complex summit where each face holds its own mysteries, like so many temptations for mountaineers. But in a lordly manner, it also offers some very big skiing all around it, which this tour invites you to discover!
J1 : Belvédère du Viso - Rifugio Granero : We cast off at the place called La Roche Écroulée, at the end of the Belvédère du Viso road, where the Ristolas Mont Viso national nature reserve begins. On this first day, the beautiful Monte Viso already appears in the distance; we will turn our backs on it for now, the better to go all the way round it. We cross the Col Sellière for a beautiful first descent to the Monte Granero hut.↑ 1047m ↓ 457m
J2 : Granero hut - Passo Luisas - Sella Quintino hut : From lake to lake, we reach the foot of Monte Granero, which we skirt via the Passo Luisas (3028m), a superb pass from which we drop down to Pian del Re. One last time putting the skins back on to reach the Sella Quintino hut, in long contemplation at the foot of the beautiful north face of Monte Viso.↑ 1272m ↓ 968m
J3 : Sella Quintino hut - Vallanta hut : Today we reach the peaceful Passo Gallarino, from which we glide down in an equally peaceful descent to the Vallone di Vallanta, 700m below.
A last warm climb will take us to the Vallanta hut, at the foot of the impressive west face of Monte Viso.↑ 580m ↓ 800m
J4 : Colle di Vallanta - Roche Écroulée : A last, rolling pass, from which a splendid descent awaits us, finally taking us back to La Roche Écroulée, which shouldn't have moved!
What a loop!↑ 355m ↓ 1039m
